Facing Broadcasting Digitalization, Jakarta KPID Prepares an Intelligent Movement

During the pandemic, broadcasting institutions such as television and radio have a role in providing information to the public. Both of them convey information on implementation of health protocols to the public on massive and regular basis.

"Besides, broadcasting institutions are currently raising information about business potentials, especially micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and other sectors. Then, potential of new normal tourism can revive people's economy in post-pandemic period through various forms of broadcast programs," she explained.

Pandemic that has hit the world and Indonesia since last year has paralyzed almost all sectors of life. Such as education, economy, tourism, and broadcasting sectors.

"Through limitation of broadcast production, there are many people such as soap opera production, variety shows, talk shows, and reduced advertisements due to restrictions on ad production. Now it is getting better," she added.

According to her, broadcasting sector has broadcast digitalization agenda which will be marked with Analog Switch Off (ASO) in 2022. Jakarta Province enters stage 1 of ASO on June 30/August 17, 2021. In implementing ASO, at least 66% of households (equivalent to 44.5 million households) are affected, including 10 million people in Jakarta Province.

"Digitalization in broadcasting can raise people's economy by opening new business field in broadcasting sector. There will be many new broadcasting institutions emerging in broadcast digitalization. At least there are 64 HDTV and 104 SDTV channels in service area of Jakarta Province," she said.
